The LA Exchange at IDS West 2015

For the 2nd Exchange at IDS West we are honoured to be working with Jaime Derringer, founder of Design Milk, who has curated six product designers from Los Angeles at the forefront of the city’s design community. Influenced by a carefree culture and climate these designers have a unique perspective on design – refined yet playful and light-hearted.

Falken Reynolds designed the exhibit to connect LA’s modernist past with the design scene of the present. The envelope references Richard Neutra’s houses, concrete blocks and sunshine while the interior is awash in colour to showcase the vibrancy of the exhibitors.

Shown above in the feature image, Bend Goods, founded by Gaurav Nanda, a sculptor and designer from Michigan, is based on Nanda’s passion for making functional yet sculptural objects. The company has already been featured on HGTV and in publications like Elle Décor, Vogue, Dwell, both the Los Angeles Times and New York Times, Design Milk, and Architectural Digest among many others.

Eric Trine designs by making, rather than drawing – each project/product begins in his studio, using only his hands and tools. His projects vary from small scale design/build for commercial clients, to furniture, to sculpture, and decorative objects for the home.

Jory Brigham grew up among generations of woodworkers and craftsmen and discovered his own creative voice at an early age. Built on top of a philosophy that opts for hand tools and raw materials over a more industrial, mechanized approach, each piece that Jory designs gives credence to this classic approach and it’s because of this approach that no two pieces can be exactly identical.
